E-fatbike on a frozen lake among frosty trees in the winter sun

Winter e-fatbike safari for team wellbeing days

Wide tyres and electric assist make winter cycling surprisingly easy. A winter e-fatbike safari is a different way to spend a team day: snowy forests, a nip of frost on your cheeks and the whole group on the move together.

In winter, the safari always depends on the weather and snow conditions. The best options are in the Ukonniemi area in Imatra, where there are trails maintained in winter. Elsewhere we ride according to the snow conditions, for example on cycle paths or forest trails when conditions allow. Tell us what you have in mind, and we'll work out together where and when the safari works best.

In winter we recommend a safari of about 1.5 hours. If you add a campfire snack or meal as an extra, the safari takes about 2–2.5 hours including the break. At the start, we go through the basics of winter cycling and riding technique. The safari is physical, so be prepared for some effort. Larger groups can be split into smaller groups based on riding level.

Where do we ride in winter?

  • Imatra, Ukonniemi area: trails maintained in winter, offering the best chances for a successful winter safari
  • Kouvola: starting from our rental point at Tykkimäki Resort (Käyrälammentie 22), route depending on snow conditions
  • Lappeenranta: starting from the harbour or the Pallo sauna venue (Tukkikatu 5), route depending on snow conditions
  • Savitaipale: starting from Olkkolantie 2, route depending on snow conditions

Dress for winter

Your hands get cold easily when cycling, so good windproof gloves are the most important piece of gear. Five-finger gloves work best, and it's worth bringing a spare pair just in case. You'll also need a backpack for drinking water and spare gloves, and a beanie that fits under the helmet. We provide headlamps for rides in the dark.

In Lappeenranta you can warm up after the safari at the Pallo sauna venue, which can be booked as an extra. In Kouvola you can combine the safari with Tykkimäki Resort's sauna and restaurant services – the resort's sales team will put together a package offer: sales.kymenseutu@sok.fi.
